Computer Basics

Designed for those who have a limited experience with computers, it focuses on the skills that lie at the heart of using a computer. It also builds skills to allow workers to continue their learning journey after the training is completed.

Topics you may like to cover include:

  • Left/right mouse clicks
  • Advanced mouse use - shift click, ctrl click, click and drag
  • Folders and files - concepts, naming/renaming, creating, using
  • Email – To, CC, BCC, find, sort, attachments
  • The Internet - what it is, how to search it
  • Talking with the IT support person - how to report/describe issues
  • Computer concepts - viruses, zip files, file extensions 
  • Organisational Tools - time sheets, annual leave forms, Intranet
  • How to trouble shoot computer problems
  • General questions and discussion

There is a limit of 3 topics per hour to ensure that students can practice and absorb the training.

Designed for those who can use their computer "well enough", it focuses on developing their skills in specific applications and areas. It also builds skills to allow workers to continue their learning journey after the training is completed.

  • Keyboard short cuts
  • Microsoft Outlook – find, sort, setting up folders and rules
  • Microsoft Word - tables, formatting, short cuts, pdfs
  • Microsoft Excel - formulas, working with worksheets
  • Talking with the IT support person - using context, describing issues
  • How to trouble shoot computer problems
  • General questions and discussion

Useful Tools

Together, we identify tools and utilities which will help your workers in their daily tasks. I then work with your IT people to install the tools (if necessary) and provide training to the workers to enable them to use them effectively.

  • Mind mapping software - Freemind
  • Password management tools
  • Office and document tools - PDF creators, touch typing tutors

Harnessing the power of the Internet

The Internet provides a great number of resources for free - if you know where to look and how to use them. This course covers ideas, sites and concepts around the Internet which workers can use to aid them in their work.

  • Making use of other people's knowledge and expertise - Forums, Groups, Mailing Lists
  • Finding information with Search Engines
  • Useful sites for Community Health workers - Journey planners, Information and support sites, Web2SMS

Tools and ideas for managing complexity

Community Health Services are complex. They are composed of a diverse range of clients, professionals, funding sources and ideas. This course focuses on ways to work with this complexity.

  • Tools for reducing and communicating complexity - Mind maps, Concept diagrams
  • Tools for simplifying processes and workflows - Activity diagrams
  • Tools for exploring issues and ideas - Argument mapping

Training created for your organisation's unique applications

You can create and deliver training for your organisation's specific processes and applications. For example, you may like to provide training for your:

Supported practice

You can provide supported practice sessions for staff to refine, share and develop their IT skills. It also gives them a chance to ask questions and discuss ideas with each other. Practice can either be structured around a general topic or based on issues workers have encountered in their daily work.
